No.09 ICAO passes the first aircraft carbon emission standard
On October 6, the 39th session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) General Assembly has come to a consensus on a global market-based measure (GMBM) known as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The mechanism is the first adopted by an entire industry sector to curb carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from international activity.
Reason for listing:
Though aviation industry is not included in the Paris Agreement on climate change, ICAO is engaged to set a new global carbon emission standard that is broadly applicable. As the first global standard that sets a peak for carbon emissions in a single economic sector, it is one of the successful multi-dimensional efforts in combating climate change. Each enterprise in each industry should not stay away from the global battle against climate change.
