【Top 10 International Events】No.05 Rio Olympic Game held with sustainability management

Since 2006, China WTO Tribune has set up an annual column of the top 10 domestic and international CSR events in the past year. In order to ensure comprehensive samples with more precise event description, and open and transparent selection process, we made daily collection and classification, and a consultation of a selected numbers of CSR experts from government, enterprises, universities and research institutions was conducted to further ensure the professionalism and authority of this list.

No.05 Rio Olympic Game held with sustainability management

The 31^st Summer Olympic Game was hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 5 to August 21. This Olympic Game turned on “economic affordable” mode with minimal budget to fulfill the mega events sustainability management, and has certified by ISO 20121:2012 Event Sustainability Management System – Requirements with Guidance for Use.

The sustainability in Olympic Game Rio 2016 provides a referable model to the impact management of mega events. Under the trend of sustainable development, a foreseen change is to establish and operate sustainability system so as to leave positive economic, environmental and social legacy and minimize the resources waste and consumption or mitigate the pressure towards local community. Therefore, the sustainability management will become an essential competitive factor for relevant industries and enterprises.
