In 2016, a group of people are active in CSR stage. They traveled through international and Chinese CSR affairs; they concern the CSR development in China, and they create miracles with their passion for CSR.
Among them, top ten CSR contributors has been named in a list of leaders who have contributed to driving CSR in China. Compiled by Goldenbee, the list aims to highlight the work of figures from across social responsibility spheres who have driven responsible development in China.

1. Mr. Chen Feng
Chairman, HNA Group
With passion and momentum for innovation, he has been led HNA Group for over 20 years and has created a miracle in the business community, successfully transforming from a traditional aviation company to a conglomerate. Under his leadership, HNA Group has been listed in Fortune 500 and ranked at 353th in 2016. When HNA Group becomes more internationalized, Chen Feng advocates “a business culture of new era” featuring the combination of Chinese excellent traditional culture with Western business management philosophy.
On June 27, 2016, HNA Group released its
Social Responsibility Report 2015 in London. This is the 7
th Social Responsibility Report consecutively released by HNA Group, and especially, its English version report unprecedentedly made benchmarking with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
HNA Group started to host Social Responsibility Forum since 2015, and the 2nd HNA Social Responsibility Forum was held in early November 2016. In June 2016, HNA Group launched “Green Aviation Initiative Network” with United Technologies Corporation (UTC) to lead the development of green aviation.
2. Mr. Christian Ewert
Director General, FTA.
As an old friend of GoldenBee, he and the Free Trade Association (FTA) have been devoting to strengthen the collaboration between European brands and Chinese suppliers, and explore the approached to sustainable supply chain. He believes that “all enterprises within the global supply chain are like sitting on a boat; they have to row together to reach the other shore and see the real changes”.
In 2016, Christian Ewert attended the International CSR Forum in June and the International Conference on CSR Reporting in China in December , both hosted by GoldenBee. FTA and he pay more attention to the implications of the COP21 commitment made by 196 global leaders and the 13th Five-year Plan roadmap portrayed by Chinese government for sustainable business development and the CSR information disclosure of Chinese enterprises in the global supply chain.
Mr Ewert dedicates to increasing FTA’s collaboration with multi-stakeholders. In June 2016, FTA signed
the Memorandum of Understanding on with Zhejiang Province CSR Promotion Association and China WTO Tribune, aiming to promote CSR in Zhejiang Province and includes the building of an international CSR standards cooperation network. FTA also launched the co-building of an international CSR standards cooperation network with China Electronics Standardization Association to enhance the communication and cooperation in CSR standards.
3. Mr. Ge Jun
VP, Apple
The self-cultivation and the most sincere love towards social responsibility endows him with distinguish personal glamour. He, as a high-level manager of a multinational company, is also uniquely full of social and human sensibilities. He adores the oriental philosophy, and continuously promotes the integration of multinational company and Chinese culture and thus leads to the positive change of Apple, the most earning and the most influential technical company, in China.
In June 2016, Apple became the strategic partner of GoldenBee. Ge Jun said, if an enterprise wants to survive and develop, it need to reply on both innovation and social responsibility. He advocates the idea of “Innovative responsibility, responsible innovation, and co-development of innovation and responsibility”. On December 1, Ge Jun attended the 9
th International Conference on CSR Reporting in China and made a keynote speech in “Approaches to CSR Reporting” Panel. He mentioned that “communication need core content, method and rhythm”. His speech expressed his inclusive feeling and his unique perspective. This exactly shows a multinational company leader’s attitude towards responsible operation and sincere call for the sustainable future.
4. Mr. Guo Xiuming
Associate Counsel, Department of Politics, Laws and Regulations, MIIT
He is a passionate CSR government representative, a leader who given great support to CSR professional organizations, and an active initiator of “Made in China 2025”.
The year of 2016 is the beginning of the 13
th Five-Year Plan and also a year to deepen CSR development and promote CSR practices landing.
Made in China 2025, and
United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development etc. all had new requirements for Chinese economic development. To contribute to the sustainable development of Chinese society, Guo Xiuming supports various CSR forums, research and investigation and seminars. “Social Responsibility” and “Responsible Manufacturing” are the two words surrounding with him. Because of these two words, national strategy and enterprises practices, industrial upgrading and social responsibility are seamlessly connected. What he did implies that the CSR has drawn attention from government, and this will encourage more CSR practitioners continue to move forward.
5. Ms. Li Ling
Vice Chairman, China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment
She persistently promotes foreign-invested enterprises to fulfill social responsibility in China. She used to take part in the edition and compilation work of the relevant legislations to regulate the management of foreign-invested companies, and took part in the contract signings of foreign-invested projects. She almost witnessed every step of foreign-invested enterprises’ development.
In China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, she led three sessions of “Best CSR Practices of Foreign-Invested Enterprises in China” activities and was in charge of the case collection, edition and publishing work. She hopes to promote the CSR fulfillment of foreign-invested enterprises to a higher level in 2017.
She plays a positive role in promoting the integration of foreign-invested enterprises’ development into the national development strategy, and advocates to add “development strategy award” in the evaluation activity of “Best CSR Practices of Foreign-Invested Enterprises in China ” ,aiming to promote a coherent development of China and foreign-invested enterprises in China. She suggests foreign invested enterprises to enhance the communication with Chinese stakeholders so as to facilitate China society to know more about the CSR concept, practices and achievements of foreign-invested enterprises, establishing a harmonious development environment for foreign-invested enterprises in China.
6. Dr. Liang Xiaohui
Deputy Chief Economist, China National Textile Info Centre
Chief Researcher, Office for Social Responsibility, CNTAC
Dr Liang is a CSR pioneer and a respectful CSR mentor. In June 22, 2016, Dr. Liang was recognized by the United Nations as one of the world’ ten Pioneers in Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). It praises for his dedication to the sustainability practices and thinking and also is an affirmation to what he has contributed in CSR field.
He made deep exploration of SDGs. In 2016, he was invited to speak at many CSR forums, and clarified the background, significance and relation between enterprises and SDGs with six English letters “ABC and XYZ” (A means SDGs is an Action-oriented plan, B indicates SDGs is full of Business opportunity, C means SDGs is the Common goal for everyone, and XYZ matches three Chinese words’ first letter respectively stands for action (Xing), actualization (Yan) and understanding (Zhi)). He also promotes the realization of SDGs in China through various approaches, such as public speeches and lectures etc.. With his initial determination, Dr. Liang has been walking on the path of Chinese sustainable development and never forget where he is heading for.
7. Ms. Qian Xiaojun
Deputy Dean, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University
She has been engaging in research and teaching of business ethics, CSR and sustainable development for many years. In 2016, she was selected as the chairman of academic committee of China CSR Think Tank. As a CSR mentor, she is in the frontier of social responsibility and sustainable development field.
“As a teacher, the great thing is to provide a mirror for students to let them find out who they are and how to improve their capabilities in social responsibility and sustainable development”. The truth is that Ms. Qian is this mirror.
Currently, Ms. Qian offers courses of “business ethics and corporate responsibility”, “corporate social responsibility and innovation” and “business operation and sustainable development” School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University for MBA and EMBA students. Additionally, she published a business ethics case book
You understand my confusion. This book shows all kinds of business ethics dilemma to students and hopes students understand , analyze and then make reasonable decisions, and further support CSR organizations and enterprises to fulfil CSR in a better way.
8. Mr. Song Zhiping
Chairman, China National Building Materials Group Corporation
He is a head of a Chinese central state-owned enterprise, but most of people have seen him as an ambitious innovator and reformer, and a thinker and a contributor of two great enterprises on the Fortune 500 list. He regards entrepreneurship as the foundation of Chinese economic rise; he advocates Chinese enterprises to go global and be “world citizens”. His ambition and responsibility interprets what a entrepreneur is.
On GoldenBee CSR Leadership Forum of the 11th China CSR International Forum held on June 7, 2016, Mr. Song’s speech themed with “enterprises on moral high ground” received active responses from audience. The video clicks reached over 16 million, reflecting his outstanding value in promoting CSR and sustainable development and his judgment in enterprises’ development path and social development direction.
“An entrepreneur should stand high, concern the destiny and development of his country and take responsibility”, which is Song Zhiping’s view of enterprise value and is also a mission for Chinese entrepreneurs under the situation of world economic growth.
9. Mr. Stefan Crets
Executive Director, CSR Europe
Facing tons of questions in environment and supply chain, Stefan Crets still identifies himself as an optimistic person. This optimism is based on his positive and effective solutions to these problems, which is his attitude and also should be an attitude for all CSR practitioners.
“Collaboration” is a key word of Stefan Crets. The collaboration with governments, non-governmental organizations, enterprises and international communities should be valued. Such kind of same philosophy contribute to the decade-long partnership between CSR Europe and GoldenBee, a model of international CSR communication and collaboration.
In 2016, Stefan Crets continued to promote the Sino-European CSR communication. He shared the latest CSR trend in Europe and his thoughts on sustainable automobile supply chain on GoldenBee platform. The Automobile Supply Chain, co-hosted by CSR Europe and GoldenBee, promotes the long-term cooperation between European automotive industry and local suppliers and releases their cooperative values.
10. Mr. Zhang Junfeng
Former Deputy Director, Institute of International Labor and Social Security of MORSS, Member of GoldenBee Expert Committee
He is a labor expert and also a CSR expert. If CSR can be seen as an educational degree, he is a respectful CSR professor. If there is a national boundary in CSR field, he is an excellent diplomatist. He took part in drawing international standards and expressed the opinions on behalf of China. If there is a worship in CSR field, he is an idol for many CSR practitioners.
In 2016, we can always see Mr. Zhang appear in many CSR forums. From participating in drawing ISO 26000 to experience sharing in CSR forums, his zeal for social responsibility has never changed. He devotes himself into promoting the localization of ISO 26000 and GB/T 36000 in China. Over the past decade, CSR development in China has experienced a process from shallow cognition, deep recognition, the development of relevant standards, to the improved policies and better environment in China. More and more enterprises also have been exploring how to fulfill social responsibility and form their own responsibility fulfillment approaches. To see these changes happened in China is the genuine happiness for Zhang Junfeng.
