Events involved with economy, politics, culture and sports always draw high attention and are featured with temporality. These events influence the society, economy and environment from both positive and negative sides. How to establish an event sustainability management system to manage social, economic and environmental risks, and eventually realize the all-win and sustainable development is a great challenge for relevant organizations and industries.
On September 20, “Innovation, Green, Service - Promoting the Implementation of Event Sustainability Management System” seminar was held in Beijing. About 40 representatives from government, exhibition industry, research institutes, certification organizations and media attended the seminar.
During the seminar, Sustainability Management Promotion Alliance (SMPA) was announced to be founded, aiming to promote the implementation of ISO 20121 and GB/T 31598-2015 among Chinese companies and events, and further improve the capabilities of sustainability management. The Alliance utilizes and integrates advantages of its member companies in various fields (GoldenBee CSR Consulting is one of the drafting organizations of GB/T 31598-2015, Shanghai Academy of Quality Management endows strong research strengths and Registro Italiano Navale has abundant certification experience), and duplicates international approaches to explore and develop certification methods within the alliance.
The alliance devotes itself into building “sustainability management system value chain” by providing services constituted of communication, training, leading-in and certifying. Between 2016 and 2018, the alliance will embark on improving its credibility, promoting industrial competiveness, supporting leading enterprises, and serving Beijing Winter Olympic Games and so on.
Since 2012 when International Organization for Standardization (ISO) released the ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System - Requirements with Guidance for Use, a growing number of international events, enterprises events and campaigns, including Olympic Games, have applied this guidance. In June 2015, GB/T 31598-2015 Event Sustainability Management Systems- Requirements with Guidance for Use was released by Chinese Government, and was implemented on January 1, 2016 to support the Chinese enterprises to implement standardizations and certify them during globalization.
The seminar was co-hosted by Shanghai Academy of Quality Management, GoldenBee CSR Consulting and Registro Italiano Navale (RINA services) under the support and guidance of the Approval Department of Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA).
