The survival and development of vulnerable groups is the key issue of China’s strategy to build a well-off society in the 2020. To effectively protect the interests of vulnerable groups is one of the major challenges in a long-term. Enterprise, as an important performer, depends on the public’s support and stable and prosperous stability to progress. Only a positive response to the social challenges can creates a good social basis for sustainable management. To this end, Shimao Group takes the charity as a key field of social responsibility and an important part of corporate culture and strategy development.

But the vulnerable group issue is extensive, diverse and exist for a long time.  A single enterprise cannot completely resolve it, neither the single investment maintain the sustainable resource support. Therefore, Shimao Group continues to explore to establish a sustainable mechanism to solve the social problems with their own resources and social influence.

Shimao Group holds that the big power, the wide recipient groups, and huge share value brought by “extensive public welfare”, is the more effective way to deal with the   social problems. So, Shimao Group, with the thought of “extensive public welfare”, launches the platform mode for public welfare to cover various forms, including foundation, association, and alliance, and continues to expand the investment of social forces. This mode constantly expands the range and number of social groups to be helped, and persistently solve social problems.

Shimao Group initiates multiple social forces and works with partners, supply chain, and communities to concern the social vulnerable groups. The linkage effect can expand the participation powers for public welfare, and improve the influence of the activity. Founded in 2005, China Red Ribbon Foundation has brought more than 20 companies, including Shimao Group, at the beginning. For ten years, the foundation has assembled more than 100 local departments at all levels, 300 colleges and universities, 50 social organizations, 2800 companies and tens of thousands of citizens to support AIDS prevention work. The foundation has launched three kinds of public welfare projects, including relief support, aid facilities and advocacy, and is committed to promoting HIV/AIDS prevention and targetedly supports and promotes the HIV/AIDS prevention work in remote and poor areas.

Shimao Group makes full use of the resource grafting, integration and optimization on the platform to maximize the use efficiency of resources in helping vulnerable groups and facilitate more vulnerable groups to benefit from the social resources. Shimao Caring Hospital project, initiated by Shimao Group, provides hospital buildings and medical equipment to remote and poor villages and towns by taking advantage of its strength in the real estate industry. The project also supports medical services by conducting investigation and research, sending medical teams to the countryside, helping medical training, and providing equipment donations to ensure that the remote villages and towns can enjoy safe, effective, convenient and inexpensive basic medical and health services.

Shimao Group pays attention to helping social vulnerable groups realize self-values, and continues to create a development platform to sharing resources and value creation with society. Shimao Group found HK New Home Association in 2010, and aims to build a one-stop service platform for new immigrants and ethnic minorities from the mainland to include all aspects from life, education, training to work. it will continuously provide language training courses, adaptability curriculum, education supporting etc. to help them adapt the new living environment, and promote them to actively engage in joint effort for a better Hong Kong , and share value creation with Hong Kong.

Social benefit

The platforms mode for public service inspired by “extensive public welfare” is the fruit of Shimao Group by combining its strength and need of social vulnerable groups. It focuses on the fields of rural health care, AIDS prevention, culture and education, disaster relief and poverty alleviation etc. In addition to China Red Ribbon Foundation,  Shimao Caring Hospital and  HK New Home Association, Shimao Group has created other internet public welfare platform projects, including “butterfly action” (rescuing orphan with critical disease), and “kelsang flower love” (helping children with congenital dislocation of the hip).

By the end of 2015, Shimao Group has donated more than 1.1 billion 100 million yuan to the society. The three major public platforms have shown significant and far-reaching effect. China Red Ribbon Foundation invested more than 100 million yuan for public welfare, covering the AIDS-stricken regions in Henan, Yunnan and Sichuan. a total of more than 9000 HIV infected people, 13700 children affected by AIDS, 16000 pregnant women with special difficulties , 370 thousand villagers in poor areas, 570 thousand migrant workers directly benefited from it. There are more than one hundred Shimao Caring Hospital in the county areas in 7 provinces, including Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu and Shaanxi, and covers a population of 20 million people. HK New Home Association has become one of the largest social groups in Hong Kong, and the cumulative number of new immigrants is over 110 thousand. All of these continue to contribute to the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong and the harmonious and friendly development of the mainland and Hong Kong.
