CMEC: Building Projects for People's Livelihood by Performing Responsibility

CMEC, as a leading international engineering contractor, insists on the principle that responsibility promotes development, practicing the Silk Road spirit featured with peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and benefits. CMEC has conducted broad cooperation focusing on infrastructure construction with countries along New Silk Road. Persisting in localized management, performing responsibilities and building project of people livelihood, CMEC is engaging in promoting local development and following its own value path by caring for local citizen.
Adhering to localized management
Regionalization and localization are the two major strategies that CMEC has long persisted in. For years of overseas operation, CMEC has been continuously deepening localized management, promoting its localized project organization and operation network, enlarging the proportion of localized subcontracting and procument. CMEC has already established local employee system in overseas projects, gradually improving the ratio of local staff, creating job opportunities in local community. CMEC attaches importance to cultivate local technical personnel,and conduct localized management. At the same time, CMEC has undertaken many exhibitions related to engineering contracting and its products in foreign countries. It also establishes multiple cooperation platforms, giving all stakeholders the access to know more about China and Chinese companies, and further identify with Chinese products and services.   
CMEC strictly abides by local laws and regulations during decision making and operation, upon which, it also focuses on protecting local residents’ developmental rights and interests, respecting community identities like local culture, traditions, customs, religious belief, etc. and multiple values, and making efforts to realize mutual emotional value identity. By respecting local culture, CMEC gained the recognition of local stakeholders.
Building Projects for People Livelihood
CMEC, combining its own advantages in project contracting with the urgent need of community development, has established several projects for people’s livelihood such like building power station, transportation facilities, communication facilities and housing projects, which are greatly beneficial to local development. Therefore, CMEC got great satisfaction from local people.
The housing project in Maldives undertaken by CMEC is an epitome of its engagement in projects for people’s livelihood Male, the capital of Maldives, has narrow streets and overcrowded housing. After the completion of the phase 1 project in 2013, CMEC has provided comfortable living environment for 7,000 local residents. At present, phase 2 project is under construction. After completion, the project will solve housing problems for nearly 30,000 local people.
Grown from progress
As CMEC is going out, it has inevitably faced obstacles and difficulties. in operation and management, the company has improved its operational efficiency and quality, as well as its ability in resisting risks. Aiming at contracting business, CMEC continues to enhance system building, conduct the full-cycle period planning of the complete project, and improve monitoring system and services including technological management, equipment supervision, training and maintenance, to strengthen  the ability to provide integrated services of the whole industrial chain for clients.
For instance, CMEC enhances the professional training of business owners,  and stresses research on business owners’ maintenance habits and levels and human resource situation. CMEC also attaches importance to the pre-planning of owners’ training and maintenance work, enhancing their service ability, and improving their technical capacity and management ability in maintenance.
Strategies guiding responsible future
As China introduced “One Belt and One Road” strategy and increasingly fierce international market competition, CMEC has to adapt to the “new normal” of international engineering contracting market. CMEC has undertaken many EPC projects in key countries in Asia, Africa and Europe, mapping a five-year development strategy planning. In future, we will continue to practice the regionalization strategy and plate development model, deeply explore overseas market, create integrated values, and build dreams on “One belt one road” guided by responsibility.
