No. 04 Japanese House of Councilors Adopts a Law to Promote Women’s Employment

Japanese House of Councilors approved a law to promote women's employment on Aug. 28, requiring large-scale enterprises, central and local governments to set up quantitative goals. The law aims to increase female employment and career promotion, sustain the dynamics of Japanese society when the declining population leads to the lack of labor, and create desirable environment for women to balance work and children.
Reasons for Selection:
Gender equality has become a key sustainability issue internationally. We should discover the social and economic value brought by gender equality, strengthen the social gender awareness of enterprise managers and employees, embed gender equality into work and improve gender equality. These efforts have increasingly become an important indicator to measure the sustainability capacity of enterprises.
