Nissan Motor Company, founded in Japan in 1933, has established manufacturing locations in 20 countries and regions, providing products and services for more than 160 countries and regions and employing about 160,000 people. Nissan (China) Investment Co., Ltd., established in Beijing in February 2004, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Company, managing the investment in China together with its headquarters.
Challenge
With the rapid development of China’s automobile industry and continuous rise in car popularity rate, cars have facilitated people’s travel, but caused more serious traffic jams. This has not only affected people's daily travel and caused higher cost in their travel time. What’s worse, it has caused environmental problems such as exhaust emission. How to effectively solve traffic jam problems and make residents travel more convenient has become a focus of Nissan Motor Company,
Solution
The National Development and Reform Commission signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in solving traffic congestion problems with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Nissan (China), as an implementing organization of the project, has made field tests of intelligent vehicle navigation system in China and promoted its wider application. In cooperation with the industry-leading software and hardware manufacturers, Nissan (China) has developed Green Wing System, which can provide the optimal driving route and eco assist services through its DRGS and EMS systems, to ease traffic pressure and reduce exhaust emission.
Nissan (China) has systematically built the Green Wing System to improve drivers’ skills and reduce fuel consumption. In the later period, it has conducted field tests in Wangjing, Beijing and stepped up its application in its own brand vehicles. It popularizes and promotes the system by the launch of the client software based on smart phones in the process of project cooperation.
Achievements
Green Wing System (comprised of DRGS and EMS systems) can help users reduce travel distance and time and improve fuel economy. It is of great significance to increase the overall traffic speed of local areas and effectively ease the traffic pressure. According to the statistics, the user can reduce fuel consumption in a fixed itinerary.
Green Wing System is a useful exploration and practice of Nissan (China) to achieve intelligent transportation in the city.
