 Company Profile
Delta Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Delta") is mainly engaged in the efficient use of electricity, the research and development and technological support in the fields of computer, information, communication, network, electronics, optoelectronics, automotive electronics, solar energy and wind energy. Adhering to the Group’s overall strategy, Delta focuses on three major businesses, “power supply and components”, “energy management” and “smart green life”.
Challenge
The design and construction mode of buildings has a long effect on future energy consumption. In China, the energy consumption of buildings accounts for more than 27% of the total energy consumption and it keeps increasing at an annual rate of 1%. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, nearly 2 billion square meters of new houses are built in the urban and rural areas of China every year and 80% of them are high energy-consumption buildings. This is also the case in over 95% of 40 billion square meters of existing buildings. Delta has leading technological edges in the management of energy efficiency in the thermal insulation, illumination, air conditioning, hot water supply, orientation of surrounding environment and air flow. But how to use these edges to promote energy conservation and bringing down building energy consumption is both a challenge and opportunity for Delta.
Solutions
Faced with the high energy consumption of buildings, Delta has given full play to its edges in the management of energy and its advanced construction technology. On one hand, it explores the practice of green building through its own plant buildings and forms a replicable solution to smart green buildings; on the other hand, it makes extensive cooperation with other sectors to promote the concept and practice of green buildings to achieve its wider use.
Achieving high energy efficiency in its own plant buildings with integrated automation technology, energy-saving products and systematic management of building materials
In Delta Shanghai Operation Center and R & D Building (hereinafter referred to as Delta Shanghai R & D Building), Delta has adopted a variety of self-developed energy-saving products including Delta LED lighting system, solar power system, industrial automation products and InfraSuite data center solutions. Together with its several automation technologies such as energy-saving lift and smart air-conditioning system, Delta has effectively reduced its power consumption and kept PUE of data centre at 1.43, meeting the gold-level green machine room standard of Green Grid.
Delta has also installed building energy management system (BEMS) to collect and monitor energy use data in real time and help the follow-up improvement in energy use. The specific actions include introducing Delta BEMS, setting electricity meter, realizing online monitoring of energy consumption, developing energy-use plan, increasing efficiency and reducing unnecessary energy consumption. Increasing the humidity and CO2 concentration monitoring points in the office area can keep the air quality of corresponding areas under control, make the indoor environment cozy, and improve energy efficiency through Delta’s unique fuzzy control algorithm.
Promoting the concept and experience of green buildings through extensive cooperation
Delta is enthusiastic about spreading the concept of green buildings and its experience through extensive cooperation with various social sectors.
In 2007, Delta Environmental & Educational Foundation launched the "Sun, Imagination and Home" project in China and continued to be the title sponsor of Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition, co-organized by the International Solar Energy Society, the Specific Committee of Solar Buildings of Chinese Renewable Energy Society and China National Engineering Research Centre for Human Settlements. Besides, Delta Foundation has cooperated with regional social education groups to provide continuous training for green building volunteers and offer guiding services for Delta’s visitors.
Achievements
Lower energy consumption and carbon emission
Delta Shanghai R & D Building passed LEED Gold certification in 2013 and became Delta’s 10th certified green building. Compared with the ordinary large public building in the area, the green building can save more than 35% of electricity and 46% of water in line with LEED design basis. The extensive use of Delta’s energy-saving products and solutions in the project has also led to the active participation of related manufacturers and played an exemplary role in the industry development. Within one-year implementation period and about 3.8-year payback period, the project has created good economic and environmental benefits.
New business
With years of practice and experiential accumulation, Delta has integrated the solution to industrial automation, building automation, data centre, communication network power, renewable energy, video and monitoring, electric vehicle charging and others. Delta has also developed its building energy management system, which has been widely used in the smart green building and other industries. In addition, Delta has set up Smart Building Business Development Office to help customers achieve energy conservation in their buildings. This is expected to be Delta’s new business.
Communicating green building concept
Green building volunteers help the local people to understand the connotation of green buildings, especially popularizing this concept among children, to develop environmental awareness in the next generation as early as possible. The government, academia, business and media have poured their efforts in the Delta Cup International Solar Building Design Competition and the Green Building Donation Campaign on cross-strait campuses to extend the use of renewable energy and green building concept. Both activities have played a positive role in developing the technology of green buildings, cultivating engineers in designing green buildings and popularizing environmental protection in China.
Prospect
Delta is willing to share its experience in the construction and use of green buildings. In connection with its self-developed high-efficient energy-saving products and smart green building solutions, Delta has addressed environmental problem while achieving its sustainable development. Delta will bring its smart green building solutions to the market and help more customers reduce energy consumption and carbon emission of their buildings. It will also strengthen personnel training and deepen the concept and education of environmental protection. Through employee volunteer programs, energy educational programs and other related green building projects, it will make greater efforts to spread the concept of green building and environmental protection to the next generation and the public.
